Volles Programm im Nationalen Automuseum: Der Event-Kalender der Loh Collection ist zum Saisonausklang noch einmal prall gefüllt mit Veranstaltungen, die das Herz jedes Autofans höherschlagen lassen.
23. November – Großer Auktionstag: Bei der Versteigerung in Kooperation mit dem auf Automobilia und Oldtimer spezialisierten Auktionshaus Ni-Cola Classics kommen rund 100 Posten unter den Hammer, viele davon für einen guten Zweck. Zu den Highlights zählen der Helm, den Henry Walkenhorst beim diesjährigen 24h-Rennen auf dem Nürburgring trug, und das vom Künstler Hendrik Schmeer in Acrylfarben gemalte, fotorealistische Bild eines roten Ferrari F40. Beginn ist um 14:00 Uhr. Gebote können auch telefonisch oder online abgegeben werden.
14. Dezember – 20 Jahre Maybach Exelero: Exclusive Film-Preview und Live Talk mit den Machern: Das Nationale Automuseum feiert im Rahmen eines exklusiven Events das Jubiläum einer automobilen Ikone. Mit von der Partie sind die Macher dieses spektakulären Einzelstücks, mit dem Reifenhersteller Fulda demonstrieren wollte, dass seine Hochgeschwindigkeits-Pneus auch unter Dauerbelastung Höchstleistung erbringen können. Die Besucher erleben dabei Design, Sound und Leidenschaft hautnah mit. Ab 15:00 Uhr ist Einlass mit der Möglichkeit zur freien Besichtigung des Museums, um 16:30 Uhr Empfang und Begrüßung. Um 17:00 Uhr beginnt der Panel-Talk startet, moderiert von Rennfahrer und Präsentator Matthias Beckwermert. Ein Abend für Enthusiasten und Liebhaber außergewöhnlicher Ingenieurskunst, tauchen Sie ein in die Geheimnisse des Maybach Exelero.
19. Dezember – „Lino Olizzo & Friends“ live auf dem Museums-Marktplatz: Ab 19:00 Uhr nehmen Lino Olizzo und seine Band das Publikum mit auf eine temperamentvolle musikalische Reise durch verschiedene Genres wie Rock, Pop, Reggae, dies alles gewürzt mit viel Italianità. Im Ticketpreis von 49 Euro inbegriffen ist der exklusive Museumszugang. Einlass ist deshalb bereits ab 16:00 Uhr. Zusätzlich können Fans zum Preis von 179 Euro ein Exklusivticket erwerben. Dieses beinhaltet als Extra ein entspanntes Dinner in der Lounge mit Getränken, Buffet, einzigartiger Sicht auf das Konzert und einem persönlichen Meet & Greet mit der Band.
Automobilfotografie wie die Profis – exklusiver Workshop
Einmal wie die Profis die Ikonen der Automobilgeschichte im Detail, aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln und bei optimalem Licht fotografieren – für Hobbyfotografen mit Benzin im Blut ein Traum! Das Nationale Automuseum und die Leica Akademie lassen ihn wahr werden mit einem exklusiven Fotoworkshop am 26. und 27. Februar 2026.
Tag eins gilt dem Fotoshooting in der Dauerausstellung und der Sonderausstellung „Grand Prix – Ikonen der Königsklasse“. Bei ausgesuchten Modellen öffnet das Nationale Automuseum Motorhauben und Türen, so dass sich die Ingenieurs- und Handwerkskunst aus unmittelbarer Nähe ablichten lässt. Ein weiterer exklusiver Programmpunkt ist der Einsatz von LED-Tubes, um besondere Lichtstimmungen zu erzeugen. Tag zwei in der Leica Welt in Wetzlar ist der Bildbesprechung und Optimierung der Fotos am Computer gewidmet. Das beste Foto jedes Teilnehmers wird in einer kleinen Ausstellung präsentiert.
Fotografische Kenntnisse sind erforderlich, auf Wunsch steht den Teilnehmern für die Dauer des Workshops eine passende Ausrüstung aus dem aktuellen Portfolio der Leica Camera AG zur Verfügung. Es wird gebeten, eine eigene SD-Karte mitzubringen.

Das Nationale Automuseum ist für 2025 auf der Zielgeraden, denn ab 24. November geht die Dauerausstellung in die Winterpause. Die Sonderausstellung „Grand Prix – Ikonen der Königsklasse“ sowie Gastronomie und Shop sind noch bis einschließlich 28. Dezember von Mittwoch bis Sonntag geöffnet. Trotz Schließung sind Führungen oder Events in der Dauerausstellung auf Anfrage an info@nationalesautomuseum.de möglich. Darüber hinaus finden an folgenden Terminen jeweils um 11:00 Uhr; 13:00 Uhr und 15:00 Uhr offene Führungen durch das gesamte Museum (Dauerausstellung und Sonderausstellung) statt, an denen auch Einzelpersonen teilnehmen können.: 29.11., 30.11., 06.12., 07.12., 20.12., 21.12., 25.12., 26.12., 27.12. und 28.12. Die Tickets sind online oder vor Ort für 55 Euro pro Person buchbar, die Teilnehmerzahl ist limitiert.
Bestes Chassis, bester Motor, bester Fahrer – selten war bis dato eine Kombination in der Formel 1 so dominant wie Ende der 1980er- und Anfang der 1990er-Jahre die Verbindung McLaren, Honda und Ayrton Senna. Nachdem der Rennstall aus dem britischen Woking 1988 mit 15 Siegen in 16 Rennen die letzte Saison der Turbo-Ära nach Belieben dominiert und der geniale Lenkradartist Senna seinen ersten WM-Titel errungen hat, werden 1989 die Karten neu gemischt: Die Turbomotoren wandern ins Museum, stattdessen setzt die Königsklasse nun geschlossen auf 3,5-Liter-Saugmotoren. An den Kräfteverhältnissen ändert sich indes nichts, denn mit dem MP 4-5 gelingt McLaren erneut ein großer Wurf. Seine schnörkellose Gestalt macht ihn zu einem der schönsten Formel-1-Autos aller Zeiten, sein Zehnzylinder – erneut aus dem Hause Honda – ist mit 690 PS das stärkste Triebwerk im Feld, und die Fahrerpaarung Alain Prost und Ayrton Senna sucht an Talent und Erfahrung ihresgleichen.
Ergebnis sind zehn von 16 möglichen Rennsiegen. Sechs davon gehen auf das Konto Sennas, darunter ein denkwürdiger Triumph in Monaco mit einer Minute Vorsprung vor dem zweitplatzierten Teamkollegen trotz Getriebeproblemen mit fehlendem erstem und zweitem Gang. Weltmeister wird der Brasilianer dennoch nicht, weil Prost fleißig Punkte sammelt und Senna beim Saisonfinale in Suzuka durch eine Kollision um die zum Greifen nahe Weltmeisterschaft bringt. Der vorläufige Höhepunkt einer Fehde, die ein Jahr später im Revanchefoul Sennas kulminiert, der den mittlerweile für Ferrari fahrenden Franzosen von der Strecke manövriert und seinerseits den Titel gewinnt.
Vom MP 4-5 entstehen acht Chassis. Das Fahrzeug des Nationalen Automuseums, zu bewundern in der Sonderausstellung „Grand Prix – Ikonen der Königsklasse“, trägt die Chassisnummer 2 und nimmt eine Sonderstellung ein: Mit ihm gewann Ayrton Senna den Monaco-Grand-Prix 1989 und bereicherte den Rennsport um eine Legende.

The Nationales Automuseum offers a full schedule. To round off the season, the Loh Collection’s calendar of events is once again packed with things to get every automobile enthusiast’s heart rate up.
23 November – the grand auction day: an auction, held in cooperation with Ni-Cola Classics – an auction house specialising in automobilia and classic cars – will feature around 100 items, many of them being sold off for a good cause. Highlights include the helmet worn by Henry Walkenhorst at this year’s 24-hour race at the Nürburgring, when he drove the RTL Charity Aston Martin Vantage GT3 to second place in its class. The auction starts at 2:00 p.m. Bids can also be submitted by telephone or online.
14. December – 20 years of the Maybach Exelero: Exclusive film preview and live talk with the creators: the Nationales Automuseum is celebrating the anniversary of an automotive icon with an exclusive event. Also present will be the creators of this spectacular one-off, with which tyre manufacturer Fulda aimed to show that its high-speed tyres could deliver top performances – even under continuous stress. Visitors will experience design, sound and passion up close. Admission is from 3:00 p.m. onwards, with the option of a free museum tour. There will also be a reception and welcome at 4:30 p.m. The panel discussion begins at 5:00 p.m., moderated by racing driver and presenter Matthias Beckwermert. It’s an evening for enthusiasts and lovers of exceptional engineering, immerse yourself in the secrets of the Maybach Exelero.
19 December – “Lino Olizzo & Friends” live at the museum marketplace: from 7:00 p.m., Lino Olizzo and his band will take the audience on a spirited musical journey through a variety of genres including rock, pop and reggae – all seasoned with plenty of Italianità. The tickets, priced at €49, also provide exclusive access to the museum with admission starting at 4:00 p.m. Fans will also be able to purchase an exclusive ticket for €179, which includes a relaxed dinner in the lounge with drinks, a buffet, a unique view of the concert and a personal meet-and-greet with the band.
Automotive photography like the professionals – an exclusive workshop
Photograph the icons of automotive history in detail, from a variety of angles and with ideal lighting, just like the professionals – a dream for amateur photographers with gasoline in their veins! The Nationales Automuseum and the Leica Academy are making it come true with an exclusive photography workshop on 26 and 27 February 2026.
Day one is dedicated to a photoshoot in the permanent exhibition and the special “Grand Prix – Icons of the Premier Class” show. The Nationales Automuseum will open the bonnets and doors of selected models so that their engineering and craftsmanship can be photographed up close. Another exclusive feature of the programme is the use of LED tubes to create special lighting moods. Day two at Leica Welt in Wetzlar is dedicated to reviewing the images and optimising the photos on a computer. The best photo from each participant will also be shown in a small exhibition.
Photographic skills are required and, if desired, suitable equipment from Leica Camera AG’s current range will be available to participants for the duration of the workshop. Please bring your own SD card.

The Nationales Automuseum is now entering the final straight as 2025 comes to a close, with the permanent exhibition taking a winter break starting 24 November. The special “Grand Prix – Icons of the Premier Class” exhibition, as well as the restaurant and shop, will be open Wednesdays to Sundays until 28 December. Despite the closure, guided tours or events in the permanent exhibition are possible upon request by emailing info@nationalesautomuseum.de. Moreover, open tours of the entire museum (both the permanent and special exhibitions) will take place on the following dates at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m.: 29 and 30 November and 6, 7, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27 and 28 December. Individual visitors are welcome to participate. Tickets can be booked online or at the museum for €55 per person; the number of participants is limited.
The best chassis, best engine and best driver – rarely has a combination dominated Formula 1 as much as the partnership between McLaren, Honda and Ayrton Senna of the late 1980s and early 90s. After the racing team from Woking, England had dominated the last turbo-era season with 15 wins in 16 races in 1988, and the brilliant virtuoso Ayrton Senna had won his first world championship title, the cards were reshuffled in 1989. The turbo engines were consigned to museums and instead, the premier class relied exclusively on 3.5-litre naturally aspirated engines. However, the balance of power remained unchanged as McLaren again achieved great success, this time with its MP 4-5. Its no-frills design made it one of the most beautiful Formula 1 cars of all time, while its 10-cylinder engine with 680 bhp – again from Honda – was the most powerful on the track while the driver duo of Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna was unparalleled in terms of talent and experience.
The result was 10 races won out of a possible 16. Six races were victories for Senna, including a memorable triumph in Monaco with a one-minute lead over his second-place teammate despite gearbox problems caused by missing first and second gears. However, the Brazilian failed to become world champion because Prost diligently continued to accumulate points and a collision at the last race of the season at Suzuka deprived Senna of the title, which was almost within his grasp. It represented the provisional climax of a feud that culminated a year later when Senna took revenge with a foul, in which he manoeuvred the Frenchman, now driving for Ferrari, off the track so that Senna was able to win the title himself.
Eight MP 4-5 chassis were produced. The vehicle in the Nationales Automuseum, which can be admired in the special “Grand Prix – Icons of the Premier Class” exhibition, bears chassis number two and holds a special position: Ayrton Senna won the 1989 Monaco Grand Prix with it and enriched motorsport with a legend.
